Identifying your core values

I promised in my previous post on “identifying your core values” to provide a personal example. It may help you to better understand and answer these questions for yourself…

Q: What was your main reason for becoming vegan?
A: The animals.

Q: What makes animals IMPORTANT to you?
A: They are so innocent and trusting, loving and forgiving; and we humans abuse their trust; we exploit torture and murder them by the billions; that just isn’t fair! I feel compelled to be a voice for these innocent creatures and to help end their needless suffering.

Q: What is MOST IMPORTANT among all of the above?
A: Ending the needless suffering.

Q: How would you describe a person who is driven to end the needless suffering of others?
A: I would describe that person as compassionate.

So, COMPASSION is a core value for me.

FAIRNESS is another one.
You might have noticed the word “fair” in my answer above, so that makes sense. But ending needless suffering is a stronger motivator for me than fairness, so compassion came out as my top value here.

What’s a core value associated with your choice to be vegan?
I’d love to hear from you.
